Mar 05 2024 voestalpine Metsec updates NBS Source information Recent investment in extensive independent testing of SFS has resulted in new data sets being created for the system and voestalpine Metsec’s NBS Source information will now incorporate performance data which includes eleven sheathing board products from seven manufacturers, all tested with market-leading dry lining boards. This further highlights our commitment to ensuring that architects and specifiers are provided with the latest, most accurate information on the performance capabilities of our SFS lightweight steel framing ‘through wall’ systems. The NBS Source updates simplify the data by grouping each ‘through wall’ solution to the individual external board (For example, GB Glasroc with Siniat internal boards), making specification of the most appropriate solution much easier. Searchability has also been improved by allowing for search by products, combinations of products or fire performance. The only variants are the size of the stud being used. The new content comes hot on the heels of the verification of SFS light gauge galvanized steel structural framing systems to the Code for Construction Products Information (CCPI), the Construction Products Association initiative introduced in response to Dame Judith Hackitt’s review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety, set up following the Grenfell Tower tragedy. Dave Atkinson, Specification Manager for voestalpine Metsec’s Framing Division, states, “Our focus has always been on providing architects and specifiers with the most up to date information available and presenting this in a clear, unambiguous and easily accessible format. “Independent product testing provides us with unequivocal performance data and NBS Source delivers this in the most convenient and accessible fashion. “Together with our own presentations, this delivers a unique resource for architects and specifiers when seeking the right solution for their projects, and CCPI verification is testament to our approach.” As well as being available through NBS Source, the SFS product data can be accessed directly from the NBS Chorus specification writing system. voestalpine Metsec now have the capability of creating specifications in Uniclass and CAWS format on behalf of the specifier. Through-wall fire testing by UKAS-approved laboratories has been used to create performance data for a variety of wall constructions using Metsec SFS in conjunction with various combinations of plasterboard (British Gypsum, Knauf and Siniat), sheathing board (Y-Wall, Glasroc X, Windliner, Weather Defence and Versaliner) and insulation (Rockwool Duoslab, Earthwool slab and Kingspan). The result is a comprehensive library of more than 390 different permutations, each with relevant fire, strength and acoustic performance data, specification information and Uniclass coding, which will enable users to write specifications for steel framing systems with the minimum of effort and in a timely fashion. Additional permutations will be added to the library as independent laboratory tests are completed and test reports published. Dave Atkinson continues, “The product information allows the specifier to select the most appropriate wall construction based on performance and application requirements. A simple click of the ‘add to specification’ button will then place the solution into NBS Chorus, simplifying and speeding the specification process. “Our comprehensive test data incorporates sheathing board, insulation and internal board from the industry’s leading manufacturers, thereby increasing the choice of wall construction available to the specifier and providing absolute freedom and confidence in the specification process. “Naturally, our sales support team is available at any time should further advice on product selection and application be required.” voestalpine Metsec’s content on NBS Source features third party certifications, including the UKCA standard, BES 6001 responsible sourcing of materials and BSI Kitemark for the company’s BIM offering, product systems, case studies, literature downloads and, of course, contact information.
