Metsec SFS has been used to provide the infill walling for a stunning extension to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

The four-storey, concrete framed structure adds to the existing Kent Building and enhances the home’s cattery by adding new reception area, offices, pens and clinical facilities for its residents.

Sustainability, energy efficiency and ease of maintenance were at the core of the building’s design and specification, created by Charles Knowles Architects. Highly insulated curtain-walling, solar thermal and photovoltaic panels, borehole heating and self-cleaning windows provide outstanding operational performance, whilst the all-steel construction of Metsec SFS adds to the building’s sustainability credentials.

Main contractor on the Battersea Cattery project was John Sisk, with installation of SFS being undertaken by specialists H A Marks of West Norwood, London. Their contracts manager, Jeff Pearce, comments, “Metsec provided the levels of service and product quality essential for such a high profile, high performance project. They produced full design details for the infill walling and their SFS product was radius-formed to accommodate the insulated render applied to the curved end of the building. All in all, the project went without a hitch and was made easier through choosing SFS.”

The result is a modern, ultra-efficient building that creates a pleasant environment for its feline residents as they await their new owners, making the most of renewable energy and natural light sources.
